Allana Buick and Bers (ABB) was retained to provide forensic investigation and leak testing in support of a construction defect litigation case. The 5050 Hopyard, Commercial Office Building was experiencing significant leaks throughout the exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS). The building is a four-story, steel-moment frame building construction with aluminum frame window assemblies and EIFS at exterior floor levels, rooftop parapets, and glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) panels at the ground floor.

ABB generated design documents and specifications for repairs to the structural support systems for EIFS and to other building envelope systems. Documents enabled accurate construction cost estimates to be prepared and the litigation was settled in favor of the plaintiff for whom we were providing our services. One of the main benefits of our services was the preparation of sophisticated engineering models displaying the thermal movements of the building that were contributing to the failed systems.
