Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABBAE) was retained as engineer and construction manager for the replacement of existing waste lines for the 1350 Ala Moana condominium building located in Honolulu.

Built in 1968, 1350 Ala Moana is one of the premier residential addresses on the Honolulu waterfront. The structure is a 150,000 SF, 34-story building that contains 353 two-bedroom and penthouse units.

ABBAE services were present for both phases of the project. First, a pilot project defined the scope and budget parameters. The second included the 18-month long construction phase that completed the project.

ABBAE provided initial forensic investigation services of the corroded waste piping and vent piping. ABBAE was the mechanical engineer of record and prepared repair documents suitable for permitting and bidding purposes. ABBAE also managed the competitive bidding process.

ABBAE’s construction management services included managing the intrusive nature of the project and complex scheduling with the contractor and occupants who were allowed to stay in their units during the piping replacement repairs.

Additional services were provided for fire safety and structural repairs discovered during the pilot project, as well as the installation of new clean outs accessible from common halls and areas that had not previously existed.
