Conley Group, An ABBAE Company, was retained by City of Dallas to provide Deisgn Development, Construction Administration, and Remedial Action for the Tenison Memorial Gates located in Dallas, Texas.

The Tenison Memorial Gates are brick masonry and pre-cast concrete constructed circa 1924. The twin structures serve as entry to a City of Dallas golf course. The mirror image structures consist of a brick masonry framework on a concrete slab foundation. Pre-cast concrete columns and panels are richly clad with intricate precast
ornamentation in the form of cast pilasters, column capitals, molding curved balustrades and finials. Over the years, atmospheric soiling, dirt accumulation, mortar deterioration and pre-cast degradation have left the structures in poor condition.

Pre-cast components exhibit cracking, spalling, discoloration and oxidation of exposed steel reinforcing bars. Panel misalignment and surface wear indicated water damage and the need for waterproofing restoration. Design elements included restoration/replacement of all decorative elements, as well as electrical services restoration and replacement of missing ornament light fixtures and assemblies. All efforts were directed at restoration of this structure to serve as the welcome portal to one of City of Dallas’ finest and oldest recreational facilities.

Conley Group and Senior Architect, Ken Paar, were later awarded the 2005 Historic Restoration Achievement Award by the City of Dallas for outstanding work performed on this building.
