Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABBAE) provided design consulting and construction services for roof replacement at a vehicle manufacturing plant, the New United Motors Manufacturing Inc. (NUMMI) plant in Fremont. NUMMI was a joint operation between General Motors and Toyota.
The affected roof area is approximately 100,000 SF and composed of a corrugated steel metal deck, with the original roof being coal tar pitch Built Up Roof (BUR). ABBAE reviewed existing plans and specifications for the original construction and repairs, in order to completely understand building construction and recorded measurements, location and configuration of roof components.
ABBAE’s work included a structural analysis of the metal deck and a comprehensive roof survey. This was used to prepare a roof plan with details for fire resistance, wind-uplift, dead loads, and drainage issues to be in compliance with FM Global Requirements. Comprehensive construction documents were prepared for roof replacements, flashing and skylights.
ABBAE provided construction administration and monitoring services including pre-construction and regular construction meetings periodically monitoring of the installations to confirm that contractors conformed to the construction documents.
